Surrealist self portraits use symbolistic art on a very personal level. This surreal pen & ink sketch (below) is the only one currently on display in the online art galleries. Surrealist self portraits allow one to look inTO the artist, beyond the physical reality. This black & white drawing did not begin as a statement of any sort, but then again most art doesn't: it just happens. Usually the interpretations (and understanding) come afterwards. That's part of the deal when working with your gut/subconscious: your head has to stay out of the way until after all of the work is done <lol>.
