One of the more complex unicorn pictures in the surreal fine art galleries and one of the first pen drawings to place unicorns (fairies, etc.) in a surreal setting. An early work indeed, but still one of the more surreal unicorn pictures on display. Another thing to note about this particular piece of artwork: it combines crosshatching and stippling in addition to contourism (the unicorn). I believe this is the first piece that actually features all three pen & ink techniques in one piece. Aubrey Beardsley's use of two different ink fields had caught my attention and experimentation in combining multiple inking techniques had been going on for a while (but this was the first time THREE were used in one piece :) Click here to return to the pen drawing gallery page.

This is a close-up view of one of two unicorn pictures, located in the online surreal fine art galleries.
