Good graphic designers are creative in more than just visual mode. Thinking outside of the box is an occupational requirement! Like figuring out how to cross a company catalog from PageMaker to Microsoft Excel to Adobe Acrobat .pdf with quick links and burn it all to CD for mailout to an international clientele!

RESULTS: The company annual confidential tariff was approx. 300 pages (each) AND mailed out to overseas clients. In an effort to lower costs and improve the product user-friendliness a few different formats were being experimented with. After layout of the entire file in PageMaker was completed, formatting was removed and the information was cut and then pasted across the programs and into an excel file. This allowed international clients to instantly convert the dollar figures into the currency of their choice at the daily rate. An improvement much appreciated by all clients. The second experiment concerned turning the PageMaker file into a .pdf with hyperlinks (for speed and maneuverability). Both files were then recorded to CD, packaged with a handy instruction booklet and shipped out at a much lower cost. Plans were to eventually replace the printed tariff with an electronic version.

PROJECT: Company catalog on CD/pdf and excel file formats.

CLIENT NOTES: Convert the entire PageMaker file to .pdf format, add links between hotels and maps, etc. (make it user-friendly); convert PageMaker file to Excel files to facilitate currency conversion by international clients; test audience reaction for possible complete changeover from traditionally printed tariff; layout product for in-house production.
